The artist started work on the painting in 1927. It illustrated the negotiations of Lenin with the commanders of fronts in the days of the Civil War.
The painting was first exhibited in 1933 in the Historical Museum at the exhibition “Artists of the RSFSR during 15 Years”. Immediately after the exhibition, the painting was acquired by the Russian Museum, and in January of 1936 it was transferred to the Central Museum of V.I. Lenin.
