Attributes of labor became symbols of a new social role of workers and peasants from the first moments of the existence of the Soviet political poster.
Until the late 1920s the hammer and anvil were typical attributes of the image of a new man – the creator – the blacksmith of his own happiness. It is known that a plow and a hammer with an anvil were proposed for the emblem of the Soviets immediately after the revolution. An emblem symbolizing the union of workers and peasants in the form of a crossing sickle and hammer was proposed. The Soviet coat of arms was approved on July 10, 1918 at the 5th All-Russian Congress of Soviets. And the emblem of the sickle and hammer was an invariable attribute of posters glorifying workers’ and peasants’ unity as the social basis of the Soviet state.
